Commitment to Community, Youth Outreach
Nuvi Mehta, Artistic Director of the Ventura Music Festival, passionately supports the Festival's belief in community educational outreach.  "Music creates community, and the Music Festival helps foster an ever-growing feeling of family for downtown Ventura."

Mehta believes in promoting a sense of community through the art of music. The Ventura Music Festival serves the community not only by providing world-class performances, but also by inviting another avenue for cultural exchange between patrons and interaction between patrons and internationally famous artists.

Reaching out to young people through the art of music
Ventura Music Festival Educational Outreach Program provides local school children with exposure to professional quality music and encourages continued participation in musical activities. A recent study by the College SAT Board in Princeton, New Jersey indicated that students who studied music for 4 or more years scored an average of 59 points higher on verbal and 44 points higher on math portions of the exam. Other recent scientific studies have proven that music study enhances spatial task performance and improves the reading and comprehension skills of remedial readers.

"It is our goal to support the community artistically and reach out to the youth through music", explains Mehta, "To see a child's eyes light up when they understand the music, or to see self-esteem and self-confidence grow in the children who embrace music is worth every moment."

Each year, The Ventura Music Festival reaches out to thousands of students. Grants and community support make this possible. The Ventura Music Festival works within the school system and encourages students to experience the magic that happens when music becomes a part of their life.  Students are also invited to free outreach concerts and a chance to attend Master Classes that take place at the time of the Festival.
